KidLitGN is run by a volunteer team, so this year we wanted to reach out for help with creating graphics for advertising the pitch event. Sheryl stepped up to deliver this charming graphic that you’ll soon see on our social media outlets. We also took the opportunity to ask Sheryl some questions to get to know her better. What inspired you to make a graphic novel?
I have been curious about graphic novels for a while. After showing a new picture book dummy book to my critique group, they encouraged me to think about using a graphic novel format instead. They were right and the graphic novel dummy book turned out great. The graphic novel format allowed me to have so much freedom and creativity.
What made you decide to pitch through KidLitGN?
I signed up for the group, mostly out of curiosity, but when I saw that the pitch event was coming up, I knew that this time I was ready to pitch. The timing was perfect.
What have you done to prepare for the pitch event that has been most helpful?
I have participated in Twitter pitches, so I was familiar with the basic process. There are 2 main tools that I use. I. trade pitches with another author. 2. I write one line, two line and one paragraph pitches. When I can perfect a one line pitch, I have a strong sense that I can really describe what my book is about.

Agents, editors and publishers can view the pitches starting Oct. 2 at 8 am throughout the whole month of October.
